Force of Nature

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

Every inch of her bare flesh tingled to the cold as she made her way up the steps. The temple’s cyclopean architecture was daunting to behold and defied even her wildest expectations.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

When the stairs reached their apex she saw him down the massive corridor, she could still make out the dark violet glow of his eyes; the Nameless.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

Pausing just for a moment to regain her composure she continued towards him, keeping her head high, and her eyes focused on his. The journey felt like an eternity.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

Approaching the altar she realized he was levitating, only a few inches off the ground, a slight breeze of power holding him in the air. She bowed her head saying the Lost’s prayer aloud. “Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.” He did not change his gaze, staring off beyond the temple into space. “They’ve told me you are one of the brightest students we’ve ever had…that your power rivals even my own, do you believe them?” Her voice caught in her throat. She stood before a god and he accuses her of being more powerful than him.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

Silence hung in the air as her mind raced for an answer. As she opened her mouth to speak the wind was knocked from her lungs as a wave of power shot her back down the corridor. With instinctual training, she caught herself before hitting the ground and shot a burst of energy back towards him.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

He was standing now and with a flick of his wrist brushed her attack past his shoulder. A grim look came to his face. “You don’t know what you are, do you? How you’ve managed to make it this far so quickly? You’re a rare breed, Sonya Jall, and your breed has run its course.” Before she could make a move she was surrounded by dark purple energy, a power so great it bent the light around her. She struggled against it, but the pressure was too great, she couldn’t move and it was getting hard to breathe.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

“I don’t understand! Why are you doing this?!” She wasn’t sure he could understand her gasping words. His expression turned from dark determination to almost sadistic glee. “You are not one of us Sonya, and you didn’t even know. You are one of the Fringe. You are chaos and you must be extinguished.” Tears burned her eyes. How could that be possible? Wouldn’t she have known by now? How was she allowed to train at the temple if she was such a monster? Her mind span in a maelstrom of questions, her heart began to race and she burned from within. She began to feel the pressure loosen, she could breathe again. A blue aura grew around her body pushing his power away from her.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

There was a deafening pop as the monstrous form suddenly manifested around her. His power burst into a haze. She was no longer in control. The beast she was surrounded by hulked twice her size, its ethereal body felt warm around her. With a roar it…she…charged toward her idol. If he was a god then she had become a force of nature.

Time is not my enemy. We walk side by side. Time is my ally.

The silence burned in his hears. 20 pulses. He must’ve really pissed the wrong person off this time. This wasn’t his first solitary, but it was the longest. They said that after 30 pulses you lose you
