Single Steps

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

It's a cliche, but still some of the best advice you could ever need. No matter how daunting the task, you're never gonna be able to accomplish it if you never start. For me, the hardest part has always been deciding which daunting task I want to take on. To continue with the metaphor, I've walked THOUSANDS of miles, just, it's been in circles.

As mentioned in the last blog post, I'm not happy with the state of the country right now. I've NEVER been less happy, in fact. Things are bad enough that I finally know the journey I want to commit to. Not that I've ever shied away from being involved or voicing my opinions, but it's never been my focus. That is what's changing. SackReligious and the message I want it to carry is my focus in my heart and mind. Thus the blog and shiny new website.

I'm still figuring out the form that this journey will take. For the longest time, the idea was just to sell bags with snarky designs on them. We added earrings and other things to add some variety. I certainly want to keep selling those sorts of things, that's what's going to help support the website and this blog. However, that's not really the end goal. I want to develop and share a message and foster a community around that message. SackReligious Is an evolving family endeavor that reflects our love of differences and diversity. Our worldview is that of inclusion, respect, support, and compassion. I feel strongly that even though I come from a place of privilege I want to use that for the advancement of human kindness and connection.

A few weeks ago my brother picked me up from work and on our way home were some "anti-abortion" protesters. It struck me that they were out on a weekday...don't you people have jobs???

I want to be able to counter protest those people. Here and around the country if I can. I want to support the people I care about by being where they can’t or doing what they can’t. I can’t do that without help myself.

So, I'm taking the first steps. I have a website. If you're reading this, you've probably been there. (www.besackreligious.com) That website has a blog, obviously. That website also has a "Support" button on the top menu. There are, as of this writing, two great ways to support SackReligious: get a custom printed item with one of my original designs from Redbubble or go to our Etsy shop and buy something handcrafted by me! Otherwise following this blog or clicking on our social buttons to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

If you've made it this far know that I sincerely appreciate your support and would like your feedback! On the website, the blog, our offerings on Redbubble...whatever you peruse please let me know what you think and what you'd like to see as I start this journey one step at a time.

I have this scar on the side of my head. I think it looks pretty cool, it’s a sort of crescent moon shape, and when my hair is short enough it’s pretty visible, like, hard to miss. So, I get asked abo
